Engineering surveying
Engineering and construction surveys in Mauritius
Control networks, setting out and corridor surveys for roads, drainage, water supply, dams, utility lines, housing and infrastructure projects, delivered to contractors, consulting engineers and developers.

Field data checked and drawn up as plans before it reaches you.
About engineering and construction surveys
Engineering surveys turn a design into positions on the ground and give designers accurate measured data to work from. They run through the life of a project: establishing control before design, surveying corridors and sites, setting out during construction and checking as work proceeds.
Saif has provided engineering survey support on projects including a seven-site social housing programme, infrastructure works for a smart-city development, medium-tension line and tower surveys for the CEB (Central Electricity Board), wastewater and drainage corridor surveys, reservoir works and an obstacle limitation survey at the airport.
Talk to Saif about your project
Send the site location and what you need the survey for. Scope and pricing are confirmed for each project.
What it covers
Engineering survey services
Survey control and benchmarks
Fixing survey stations, benchmarks and control points at the start of a project, including control for geotechnical investigations.
Setting out
Setting out buildings, individual lots and infrastructure from the design drawings, with checks as construction proceeds.
Roads, drainage and water networks
Surveys along proposed road, drainage, water-supply and wastewater corridors, including on-site and off-site works.
Dams, reservoirs and hydraulic structures
Topographic surveys around dams and reservoirs, river surveys downstream of spillways, hydraulic structure surveys and longitudinal sections.
Earthworks and volumes
Contour plans and cut-and-fill estimates to support earthworks planning and measurement.
Utility lines and towers
Topographic surveys along overhead line routes and at tower locations across the island.
Airport and specialist surveys
Obstacle limitation surveys and other specialist topographic work to a client's brief.
When it is useful
Typical situations
Contractors
Control, setting out and checks so that structures are built where the drawings say.
Consulting engineers
Corridor and site surveys, sections and contour plans in the formats your design software expects.
Developers
Site surveys, lot setting out and infrastructure surveys across every phase of a development.
Utilities and public bodies
Line-route, tower and reservoir surveys for infrastructure planning and maintenance.
What you receive
- Control schedule with coordinates and levels of survey stations and benchmarks
- Setting-out marks on site and setting-out reports
- Topographic survey plans and contour plans in PDF and DWG
- Longitudinal and cross sections at agreed intervals
- Cut-and-fill estimates
Deliverables and formats are agreed with you at scoping and may differ from this list depending on your project.
What to have ready
- 1Design drawings, in DWG where possible, and the coordinate system or datum the project uses
- 2Programme dates for setting out or survey visits
- 3Site access, safety requirements and a site contact
- 4Existing control information, if any has been established

Process
How an engagement works
A clear sequence from first conversation to delivered plans. Scope and pricing are confirmed for each project, based on its requirements.
- 1
Discovery call
A short conversation on WhatsApp or by phone about your site, what the survey is for and when you need it.
- 2
Scope and quote
Saif confirms the scope, deliverables, timeline and price in writing, based on your project's requirements.
- 3
Fieldwork
Survey on site with the appropriate instruments, drone or vessel, with access arranged around you.
- 4
Plans and deliverables
Survey plans, sections, documentation or digital data delivered in agreed formats, with a walk-through of what they show.
Questions
Questions about engineering and construction surveys
Which software and formats do you work in?
Saif drafts in AutoCAD and Civil 3D and also uses open-source geospatial tools. Plans are usually delivered as DWG and PDF; other formats can be agreed.
Can you establish control before the design starts?
Yes. Establishing survey stations and benchmarks early gives the whole project, including geotechnical investigations, a common reference framework.
Do you provide ongoing site support during construction?
Yes. Setting out and check surveys can be scheduled around the construction programme. Discuss your programme with Saif so that visits can be planned.
Do you prepare cut-and-fill estimates?
Yes. Saif has prepared contour plans and cut-and-fill estimates for infrastructure works, for example on the Trianon smart-city project.
Do you work with survey control established by others?
Yes. Where control has already been established, Saif can check and use it, or extend it as the project requires.
